Description

Ah Prom. Originally designed for the senior one, much worn since then.

Entirely my own design and construction. The bodice is made from three layers of fabric. It only has one set of steel boning up the front sandwiched between the edge and the grommets. The rest of the bodice's structure comes from the very heavy weight upholstery fabric in the middle layer and the fact that it is cut to fit my body rather than significantly re-shape it. This quickie design obviously has its limits, but this piece has maintained its shape really well over the years and I have also hade surprising success making similar dresses for fuller body types.

There is a pannel that goes in the front of the bodice under the lacing, but for this shoot it seemed more interesting without it. The skirt is a seperate piece that attaches inside with hooks. It is worn here over layers of other skirts because I did not have the actual underpinnings at the time. I think I've worn it in similarly jerry-rigged fashions more than with the real petticoat. Pannier & Bustle effect achieved by pinning the bottom edge of a long-sleeved t-shirt, stuffing it with available sctap, and tying it around my waist. Highly recommended in a pinch.

The fabric is synthetic, but I do not remember what.

Oh my goodness. This dress would be amazing for my homecoming dance coming up.
