New Snake New Snake :-)

*didn't have time to post info when I posted the pic so here's the story:*

I've been looking for a new person to cast my work, and one of my sample runs recently came back terrible. The pieces were full of air holes and broke when I tried to bend them (I like to cast one design then rework it into something new). About two weeks ago I was walking by my bench and noticed one of these broken scraps lying in the corner. I idly started tweeking it a bit, and found that the consistency was strong enough to take a little abuse ;-) So I sat down to pull on it just to explore the metal and the shapes that were evolving..... several hours and a missed dance class later, after significant torquing and filing, I looked down and there in my palm was the third snake.

Now, this snake has been eluding me for moths. I have sketched it and started it and reworked it. I've tried different gauge wires, I even took a gander at designing it in CAD.

This is not the design I had been working on. I should have known- these serpents really do insist on having their own lives, and clearly I was being too controlling.

So, the moral of the story is that happy accidents can come out of even the most frustrating beginnings and that sometimes creative work just has to happen at its own pace.

This piece is cast (from my original castor) and will be available in my Etsy shop soon [link]

It's about 2 1/8 in. long (55mm) from the head to the tail and just over 1 in (27mm) long at the center loop. I have oxidized this one and strung it on a 16 in chain with a freshwater pearl in the center.

I seriously love this, something about how that snake is twisted in the middle, and how it holds on the end of the chain with it's tale. Lovely craftsmanship
